The Centre for Citizenship and Public Policy at the University of Western
Sydney announces a new *four year PhD program* in Political and Social
Thought that includes a compulsory first year of advanced graduate
coursework followed by a supervised research thesis. Scholarships of up to
four years are available to domestic and international students.
Applications for a place in the initial 2010 intake are due to the Centre by
mid October.

Doctoral students will participate in courses, seminars and supervisory
relationships with staff who are interested in the following research
themes:

   - Collective action and practices of political engagement
   - Capacity for ethical action
   - The history of publics and jurisdictions
   - Citizenship and human rights
   - Rethinking the ideas of wealth and well-being
   - Subjective life and politics
   - Rebuilding the capacity of government
   - The pragmatics of government and public policy
