Hi All, We have our final Foundations of Physics seminar this Wednesday the 9th of December at 11:30am in the philosophy common room, Main Quad. Speaking will be Tom Durt on "Quantum Coherence in Biology: Myth or Reality?".
It is still an open question to know whether we need more than standard chemistry and Newtonian mechanics in order to explain biological processes. The dominating picture, the one shared by the majority of biophysicists for describing these processes, is indeed a mechanistic, classical, picture in which it is not assumed that Quantum Weirdness plays any significant role. We shall discuss recent experimental observations and proposals that menace this ''status quo'', and could bring us to reconsider seriously some of our a priori conceptions about ``what is life'' in a near future.
