Abstract

John Anderson¹s philosophy is most commonly described as a systematic
Realism (hence ŒAndersonian Realism¹) meaning thereby a Realist treatment of
the traditional branches of philosophy logic, ethics, and aesthetics.
However a critical re-assessment of the systematic and Realist treatment of
these subjects demonstrates that Anderson¹s Œsystematic Realism¹ fails in
terms of either its systematic intention or its Realist basis. An
alternative description of Anderson¹s philosophy is then considered which
more accurately describes the systematic character of his philosophy.

Dr. Mark Weblin completed his PhD on Anderson¹s philosophy in 1995 and was
employed as the John Anderson Senior Research Fellow at Sydney University
from 1999 to 2006. Dr. Weblin has written several articles and biographical
outlines on Anderson¹s life and philosophy and has recently completed the
first volume (of three) of his biography on John Anderson.
