Abstract:
I argue that there is no identity relation. There is also no property of
being self-identical that any object possesses, much less every object. The
belief in this chimera has created false views in the philosophy of
language and logic and has spawned absurdities in metaphysics. The error in
our thinking on this matter can be traced to a misunderstanding of Frege
and from there it has spread throughout philosophy. My argument suggests
that it is time it were purged.
