Next Thursday the School of Humanities and Languages at UNSW will be hosting an annual Postgraduate Conference under the banner of Emergences and Convergences. Interdisciplinary panels will speak to diverse themes: Social Movements, Language & Cultural Modernity, Contemporary Philosophy, History & Historiography, Japanese Language Education, and Environmental Humanities. Paul Patton, Lisa Ford, Eben Kirksey, Peter Collins, Chihiro Kinoshita Thomson, Lindsay Kelley, and Jean Taylor will be chairing these panels and serving as discussants. A keynote lecture by Prof. Franson Manjali, visiting from Jawaharlal Nehru University, will explore “The Story of Language, Culture and Religion in the Colonial Context. “ Students from ANU, Deakin University, University of Sydney, Victoria University, Sydney College of the Arts, University of Western Australia, UTS, and University of Sydney will be giving presentations alongside our own students. Isonbelle Barrett Meyering, Sophie Robinson, James Keating, Rick Arruda, Emily J Huges, Francesco Paradiso, Antje Kuhnast, Andrei Miroiu, Kate Colgan, Molly O’Halloran, Prue Gibson, Tetsushi Ohara, Yuji Okawa, and Kaori Shimasaki will be presenting from UNSW.
