Update: Schedule of talks and titles for this week's workshop at UOW UOW Philosophy is hosting a two-day workshop on January 9th/10th on The Emergence of Social Cognition, with keynote talks by Daniel Hutto and Shaun Gallagher.
Hutto has recently joined UOW as Professor of Philosophical Psychology, and Gallagher has recently accepted a Professorial Fellowship at UOW. This Fellowship will allow Gallagher to visit UOW regularly from his main appointment as Lillian and Morrie Moss Professor of Excellence at the University of Memphis. The theme of the conference is the Emergence of Social Cognition. The purpose is to improve our understanding of how social cognition arises, and how social cognition relates to other forms of cognitive activity. The core questions we will examine include the following. In what ways does social cognition emerge from individual cognition? What is the relationship between social cognition and group cognition? How should we integrate studies from perspectives? And how do the answers to these questions relate to more general questions about whether cognition is extended, embodied, or enactive?
