Problem of Evil Workshop

How, if at all, can the existence of a perfectly loving God be reconciled with 
the suffering and evil in the world? This workshop will explore a range of 
responses and approaches to this difficult question, from the construction of 
‘theodicies’ to challenges to the traditional understanding of God.

Schedule for each day



9am – 10.30am: SESSION 1

10.30am – 11am: morning tea

11am – 12.30pm: SESSION 2

12.30pm – 1.30pm: lunch

1.30pm – 3pm: SESSION 3

3pm – 3.30pm: afternoon tea

3.30pm – 5pm: SESSION 4



Format for each session:

Prior to the workshop each speaker will have prepared a ‘Position Statement’, 
an outline of their response and approach to the problem of evil. In the 
opening 15mins the speaker will provide a summary of their Position Statement. 
Over the next 60mins three other workshop participants will give short replies 
to the speaker’s Position Statement, and the speaker will in turn reply to 
these. In the final 15 mins, members of the audience will have the opportunity 
to offer comments and questions.
