I got the same problem but the short syntax does not solve it,
unfortunately.

doctrine.dbal:
     host: localhost
     user: root
     ...

This not works.

It's probably a bug in Symfony/Bundle/DoctrineBundle/
DependencyInjection/DoctrineExtension.
