I think given the current mess this generates, with the little amount of users we have at the moment, we should seriously consider switching back to "foo.format.renderer" naming. Because I don't want to imagine the mess once it's unleashed on everyone else.
Having twig tags highlighted in .json files for example is just too much to ask imo, this does not make any sense beyond the Symfony2 context. Sure some IDEs may adjust but we'll never get everyone on board, which means people will feel the pain.
