My static site generator is built around HttpKernel. I'd love to have an opportunity to have my software used to build the experience site. It won't be the end of the world if you decide to go the static route and end up using Jekyll but I think it would be a great opportunity to use a Symfony based static site generator to generate the experience site. I might be a little biased, though. ;)

If not static, a CMF backed site would be a nice choice.

I'll have a handful of other Symfony backed projects I plan to release in the near future. This could be a great way to get a lot of exposure for cool new projects. It could get messy really fast. What I find to be a "cool Symfony project" may look less cool to someone else. :) Would it be curated in some way? Or would it be a free for all?

All in all I like the idea. :)

1) I would strongly recommend against Jekyll. Not because I have anything against Jekyll, but because a Symfony showcase site should be built with Symfony. (Which Symfony-based app is an open question. A year from now I'd say Drupal 8, but it's not stable yet, so, yeah... <g>)

2) We used to have user-submitted case studies on Drupal.org. Anyone could submit them (there was a section in the forum), but we had a team of people that curated them and promoted really really good ones to the home page. When we redesigned the site we dropped that and switched to quasi-professional case studies. I don't think you can just post them anymore, but they're always edited and tweaked by a team of good technical/marketing writers. That's a skill unto itself that most engineers lack. :-) If you'd like I would be happy to put someone (Lukas?) in touch with one of those folks to pick his brain for ideas.
