Hi,

There is a patch on github waiting to be merged in the symfony master that
resolves the problem (https://github.com/symfony/symfony/pull/694).
Currently there is a pattern option you can pass to your DateType
(date_pattern in DateTimeType) but it is not taken into consideration. If
you include the patch in your code base, it will work as expected and you
could do:

        $builder->add('date', 'datetime', array(
            'date_widget' => 'text',
            'date_pattern' => 'dd.MM.yyyy'
        ));

Note that the date_pattern accept Intl patterns (
http://userguide.icu-project.org/formatparse/datetime)

Regards,
Matt
