Sorry for the late reply and thanks for your response. 

We've been giving this some thought and are not going ahead with it. The 
thing we want to achieve is a shared model layer, but the requirements for 
the backend and frontend apps are quite different, so there isn't much logic 
that we need to share. It would be great, though, if we can share the Entity 
classes, but I think it's too much work for such a small gain. 
I think eventually we'll migrate to SF2+D2 in one go, hopefully somewhere 
next year, but that is up to my boss to decide.

Please do update the sfDoctrine2Plugin. I have a much smaller, less 
customized sf1.4 project that I would like to use for testing a migration to 
D2, just out of curiosity.
