Comment #26 by andy.terrel: So more or less after implementing both systems it seems that keeping the piecewise functions separate until asked is best. I have a few patches over at http://github.com/aterrel/sympy/tree/piecewise but they aren't really finished. I basically need to have a better way of passing assumptions to finish up simple 1D piecewise functions.
