Yes, bin/test and sympy.test() is equivalent:

In [1]: import sympy

In [2]: sympy.test("sympy/utilities/tests/test_pickling.py")
============================= test process starts  
==============================
py.test like reporting.

sympy/utilities/tests/test_pickling.py[28] ...........ffffff...........      
[OK]

============= tests finished: 22 passed, 6 xfailed in 2.84 seconds  
=============
Out[2]: True
