Bronstein, Symbolic Integration I: Transcendental Functions, Second Edition, Springer-Verlang, 2005" is the most comprehensive source of information about Risch algorithms (heuristic version is described at the end). Note we don't implement the true (recursive) version of Risch algorithm (yet). As to the patch, -1 for now. I think there is much more general solution to integrals of this kind.
