As far as with statements and Python2.4, if I remember correctly, we decided that we would keep Python2.4 support for about a year last summer. So probably by the time this can be implemented and pushed into a release, we could drop support. I don't know if people use 2.4 still, but I would personally support removing the compatibility. Python2.5 added quite a few language features in addition to the with statement, such as the built-in all() and any() functions, that are annoying to work around. I think we should drop the support for this older Python and start looking forward to supporting Python3. As for the patch, if we decide to release before the new assumptions system is finished, I think we should push the fix for the old .is_real.
