Thank you! Here a few comments:

Your function get_symbols_in_expr() can be replaced with expr.atoms(Symbol):

>>> from sympy import *
>>> var('a b')
(a, b)
>>> e = a**2 + sin(b)
>>> e.atoms()
set([2, a, b])
>>> e.atoms(Symbol)
set([a, b])

Please make sure to have a whitespace after ',' or '#'. Same for ':' when  
creating a
dictionary.
