The same problem exists in master. RootOf is a mess. Consider the finagling necessary to test it with dsolve()
in test_nth_linear_constant_coeff_homogeneous_RootOf() and @XFAIL
test_nth_linear_constant_coeff_homogeneous_RootOf_sol() (no doubt you have, because this is exactly where
this ode comes from :).

If you can clean up RootOf to work like a normal SymPy object (i.e., not have Poly in the .args, which messes up things that expect sympified things in args), then it will become much more useful.
