Before I start separating this from the general 1766 commit I would like to
see if
there are any issues that will be raised. It's not the hint manager, so
much, as
whether it is able to be used effectively by expand. I've totally
re-written how
expand works, so that is what I really want the feedback on. See
commit "expansion
edits" in smichr's 1766 branch at github. Can you run the profiling again,
Ronan?
