As for submitting this as my own branch, I'm not so easy with git, but I may merge this with 1694 and propose a global patch.
Maybe I'll also add what I proposed in comment 11 if you don't have any objection ?
(I'll try to do this today or tomorrow, since I won't have Internet access for a week after Saturday, and a lot of work in September...)
