I think that this will be easy to do. I was focusing on the sigma not on the argument as a whole. I'll just stack the properly sized sigma (based on argument) with the limits and the final width that gets joined with the argument will be the larger of the sigma or the longest argument.
re unicode--I don't know what the bits are that can be worked with to get the angles right. I'd like to get this ASCII version going and perhaps someone else will be uni-inspired. About a year ago I couldn't figure out how to get the prettyForm and stringPict to work so my ASCII work came to a dead end. But now in a day I was able to put the pieces together.
