issue 1837, I think. But that didn't address this issue. And where is the HardFix label? Changing this behavior is not going to be trivial. non-commutatives are affected since A/A wouldn't be 1. There are numerous other failures when trying to change this.
fwiw, smichr branch zero was the start of this project which was quickly abandoned.
