So here's one of the issues that would be nice to have fixed (or at least begun) by the release, so that we can start the deprecation cycle. I never really got anywhere with my work in my piecewise-syntax branch, unfortunately. I'll I did was remove ExprCondPair, which leads to a test failure.

But the only thing that needs to happen by the release is enough that we can start deprecating the current syntax, which means that we have to allow the new syntax and use it in .args (I think it should be possible to allow both at once without ambiguity during the deprecation period).
