Well, I disagree. is_prime is very explicit, and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't call isprime(). To me, if the assumptions system can return True or False instead of None, it should.

I do agree that more can be done. I think it really requires the new assumptions, though, as we need to be able to assume that things are greater than 1, not 0. For example, i*j is prime if i =1 and j = 3. See also my comments in the commit messages of my branch. And even now, the new assumptions don't have support for relational assumptions (see issue 2721, which relies on issue 1887). Let's create a separate issue for this.
