Than the expanded version? Yes. But simplify doesn't use the
expensive 'factor' option so you don't get that from the expanded version.
In the changes that I've proposed here's how this is handled:
(x - y)*(4*z - 2)
(x - y)*(4*z - 2)
simplify(_)
2*(x - y)*(2*z - 1)
(that's longer than the original but shorter than expanded options)
expand(_)
4*x*z - 2*x - 4*y*z + 2*y
simplify(_)
4*x*z - 2*x - 4*y*z + 2*y
(not sure why the 8-count factored form is not returned instead of this
9-op expression)
