Improper usage. The following works -
from sympy.galgebra import *
metric = '1 0 0,0 1 0,0 0 1'
gamma_x,gamma_y,gamma_z = MV.setup('gamma_x gamma_y gamma_z',metric=metric)
print gamma_x
