Man I feel bad for you catching all these basic shortcomings...
You really don't need to feel bad. It's very common that you don't see the shortcomings of your own code, this is why we require every patch to be reviewed by another person.
Maybe the only thing you can do to avoid this is to have complete and extensive tests that make sure you implemented all intended behavior correctly.
