Well, the patch that's in clears the cache in the "test_file" procedure, while the one here has the perhaps better idea of doing it in the main "test" procedure (it actually does it in both places, which is not needed). I guess the patch that got in was a bit of a quick hack and I didn't look too closely at better ways to do it (was just happy the memory usage was down). I could make a patch to do it more cleanly but it doesn't really matter, especially if we are moving back to py.test (see issue 2542).

Vinzent, what do you think?

Aaron, I noticed by accident you didn't add this to the release branch, any particular reason? Someone out there might appreciate the memory improvements, though I guess it's not really that important.
