Thanks for your quick response. Yes, I am clearly not as advanced mathematically as others (I have reviewed some of the other proposals), but this program piqued my interest. Coming at it with such a limited time, however, I do need to evaluate whether the process is feasible. I was encouraged by my mentor/research advisor to apply this year, even though I am in my first year of computer science and was a bit intimidated (and still am). I will review the project ideas and see if there is one that feels realistic. I do have time to generate a proposal if I find that to be the case, and was more concerned about the patch. I was particularly interested in the integration one, but that is labeled hard, so perhaps not.
