Hi Isuru, I am sorry that the project was not accepted, but the reasons are not what you suggested. We received a lot of good applications and had to choose those that would be of greatest benefit for SymPy. Moreover, the projects that were accepted were those written in most details and showing greatest understanding of SymPy's codebase.
There are already many independently written SymPy apps, and if you can produce something original and better than what is already present it would be great. If you are interested in working on a mobile app, go on and we will try to help along the way. If you plan to apply next year (not necessarily to sympy but to any other organization) such activities would only be a plus.
