I just *had* to look at this problem again, and got even more strange
information: The SMTP server's DNS record has a variable TTL of between 2000
and 5000 seconds, so if I query the record, the OS cache should have the
data for at least 33 minutes.
BUT, if I do quick *single* attempts to send the email (and GetHostByName)
it *always* fails. That is the program is launched, button pressed to send
email, quit... repeat... repeat...
But, if *ANY* GetHostByName() call occurs before the attemt, EVEN a
completely stupid one, like,
GetHostByName('');
the next call succeeds!
It's stuff like this that makes me want to go to the nearest beach and apply
for a job as a lifeguard.
