Paul, you might want to send a note to board@ inform them that this is coming. They have strict rules on when stuff needs to be in their work list!

This is to inform the WebServices PMC that Synapse is planning to forge out and look to be established as a Top Level Project. We have discussed this on the synapse-dev list and it seems like we are all in favour of it.

This is in response to a couple of things. Firstly, there was specific encouragement at ApacheCon from Jim Jagielski for some WS projects to seek TLP status. Secondly, while Synapse has very strong support for WS-*, we are adding and strengthening our support for non-WS data formats all the time and we would like the world to see us as not just WS. Of course other parts of the WS project also have excellent support for non-WS-* - we simply think that forming a TLP will give that aspect of Synapse better visibility.

We haven't yet had a formal vote, but we are in the process of creating a Board Resolution. Anyone who wishes to join the Synapse PMC please see (and edit) this page:
http://wiki.apache.org/ws/Synapse/TLP_Proposal

The aim is to get this into the December board meeting (Dec 19th) so I propose that we leave the resolution open till the end of the month. On or after the 3rd of December I will start a vote to approve this Board resolution and propose it to the board on Friday 7th December. If anyone knows this process please let me know if I've missed anything.

Thanks,

Paul
