A decision was made to move forward with a plan to integrate Firefox Accounts with the existing Sync 1.1 and re-evaluate upon completion. A roadmap for this strategy is roughly:
Milestone 1 - A non-shippable engineering milestone - Bare bones integration of Firefox Accounts with Sync 1.1 - In-content authentication to Firefox Accounts API (about:accounts) - Use the Firefox Account kB as the "sync key" - Change Sync 1.1 storage server architecture to use Sync 2.0 token server for auth At this point, we'll either: Milestone 2 - A shippable version of Milestone 1 - Details TBD or skip straight to Milestone 3 - Replace Sync 1.1 in Milestone 1 with a better storage protocol - Details TBD Other updates - User stories for new milestones: https://wiki.mozilla.org/User_Services/Sync/v1 - Lloyd leading client integration for Milestone 1 - Milestone 1 bug tree for mobile created: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/showdependencytree.cgi?id=799726&hide_resolved=1 - Milestone 1 bug tree for desktop proposed: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/showdependencytree.cgi?id=905997&hide_resolved=1 - Proposal for service/device capability discovery service: https://wiki.mozilla.org/User:Rnewman/ServiceDescription - This will be essential for Milestone 2 and Milestone 2 so we can upgrade to better storage protocols in the future
