Yes, and I might update my post to include it. Mozilla's Sync storage
servers require agreeing to Mozilla's terms of service; to agree to the
ToS requires a Mozilla-hosted Firefox Account.
That means you have any of the following configurations:
(Moz FxA) & (Moz Sync)
(Moz FxA) & (self-hosted Sync)
(self-hosted FxA) & (self-hosted Sync)
You can *not* have:
(self-hosted FxA) & (Moz Sync)
You probably will self-host FxA and Sync.
