Ok, I found a library that might suffice for connecting to SkyDrive, JLiveID http://www.jproductivity.com/products/jliveid/index.htm
It says the code is proprietary, but is freely licensed and the full license is here: http://www.jproductivity.com/products/jliveid/doc/license.htm I am going to hazard a guess this is not compatible with the project but wanted to check before I went through the pain of writing my own log-in handler So far I've got it to do a successful log-in to the same service as the SkyDrive client, not gone any further.
