I removed these packages, and with huge relief I saw the 1st sync
complete without problem.

My apology again for the waste of time. No excuse, but I had completely
forgotten those files in the cleanup of the compiled version. And they
remained unnoticed until the upgrade.

I'm reassured to know that Syncevolution will run on my main PC (on
which I never compile anything) when I upgrade it to Linux Mint Debian
Jessie.
