As mentioned in the Synfig-user thread "AVI animation", Synfig's packages (particularly the bootstrap scripts) have issues with a pathname that includes a space. I've always workaround'ed it by changing the build path, but it's probably something that should be fixed relatively quickly, particularly if Synfig is trying to attract new devs to the project, since this is more a set-up-for-development issue than an end-user issue. (unless that user is compiling from source!)
