Summary: synfigstudio can't find icons - bad value for IMAGE_DIR

Initial Comment:
I built synfig and synfigstudio from the current svn
sources using Debian Unstable.

The config.h which was generated by ./configure when
building synfigstudio has this line:

#define IMAGE_DIR "/pixmaps"

This results in synfigstudio being unable to locate
any of the graphics (for the splash screen, and the
icons, for instance) unless I export an environment
variable:

export SYNFIG_ROOT=/usr/local

Doing that works around the problem.

Note that when I ran 'bootstrap' I saw warnings about
the versions of autoconf and automake I was using. I
just tried running 'bootstrap' again to copy and
paste the warning here, but they no longer appear.
Now all I see is:

bootstrap: Using autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.60a
bootstrap: Using automake (GNU automake) 1.7.9

but I'm pretty sure yesterday it was telling me
something like "the version of autoconf is wrong; got
2.60a, expected 2.59(something) - bootstrap may
fail". bootstrap didn't appear to fail, so I ignored
the warning and carried on. I mention it now because
maybe it's these 'wrong versions of auto*' which
caused IMAGE_DIR to be set incorrectly.

About the IMAGE_DIR thing, that was caused in SVN r180 as part of an
attempt at better relocatability. Fixing this attempt using the same scheme
as I wrote for nsis is on my TODO list and is a blocker for the next
release IMO.

BOOTSTRAP MUST DIE!!! jebus I hate that thing (also a blocker, but for
practical reasons - make dist is broken, probably because of bootstrap). I
hope to replace it with autoreconf at some point.
