Summary: Whitespace when importing an .svg image into Synfig

Initial Comment:
Hello.
There is a problem with Synfig when I import an .svg created by Inkscape into
Synfig. The problem is there is "whitespace" around most of the imported image,
when there was none in the version viewed in Inkscape.
I apologize if this bug has been posted already. I made a search, but I
couldn't find a duplicate.

Thank you.

Message:
I forgot to mention that SVGpage (just like Firefox) had no problem
handling the transparency for the "2" file; however, it did mess up the
image alignment and did so very similarly to the way synfig (mis)rendered
it.

Testing inkscape.. works just like firefox (perfectly aligned 2 with
transparency).

BTW, I double checked the above by having synfig, SVGpage, and inkscape
convert the SVG import into PNG and then viewing these three png files from
Firefox using a blue background.

This was done using a version of PCLOS (Linux) with not too old builds of
these applications (although synfig was 0.61.09).

There is also a hint that perhaps the synfig svg importer is not complete
or as general as it could be. The file
synfig-0.62.00/src/modules/mod_svg/svg_parser.h has this comment:

>> class Svg_parser
>> {
>> //this is inkscape oriented in some cases

Meanwhile, the codecogs dot com online tool apparently generates the file
using dvisvgm (and not, eg, inkscape).

Recap:
-- synfig garbles the "2" image and the background transparency ..of the
svg file generated at codecogs dot com online tool using dvisvgm(?).
-- SVGpage garbles the "2" image only ..and so that it renders much as does
synfig!
-- Firefox and inkscape get the image and transparency as intended.

Message:
I am having this problem as well when I use codecogs dot com online tool to
generate a transparent background svg (or png) using their latex conversion
tool. Gif works fine, btw. For a test file, try "2". The small svg file
generated looks reasonable with no hint of an opaque background, yet synfig
gives a white background. Additionally, synfig misaligned the "2" quite
badly. I verified Firefox handled this "2" file properly.

Oh, and I almost forgot. I was running Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) when the
problem occurred. Version of synfig is the latest.
