So the problem is elsewhere, around one of the tests (if != NULL) inside LayerTree::update_param_tree_header_height() https://github.com/d-j-a-y/synfig/blob/djay_align_rows/synfig-studio/src/gui/trees/layertree.cpp#L1341 (without access to a winz platform is'not so easy to debug :-) Time to sleep and try to follow the debug in my dreams...
