The source turned out to be Facade. The documentation states that it "installs a patch" I'm guessing that there are sounds (a bamboo flute like tone is sometimes heard) and a corrupted icon in that patch. Either that or somebody messed with the program along the way. To get rid of them, you have to remove Facade from the System Folder and re-install the System. I'm sure there's a way to remove these features and save the sigh as a system sound but that's a project for someone else. I'll pass Facade to you shortly Jeff. Don't hurt yourself with it.
