I have a Mac SE which I salvaged from the town dump. It runs great! I
installed a clean System 6.0.8 on the hard drive which some kind hacker
installed in place of the upper floppy. I installed the Zip for Mac 4.2
driver for an external SCSI Zip drive, which works fine.

Now I'm trying to get an external NEC CDR-600 3x CD-ROM to work. I
downloaded and installed the NEC 5.3.1 "Speedy CD" driver which doesn't
explicitly supports this drive model. Short version: The device shows up
under SCSI Probe, but I can't get it to mount a CD volume.

I also tried Apple's CD-ROM Driver 5.3.1. When trying to mount voumes, the
system would thrash for a while then report that it couldn't write or update
the desktop because the volume is locked. Well, obviously it's locked, but
I'm not sure why that matters. Anyway, I'm stuck.
