Well, you have a few options. You can run Apple's 68k Development System in OS6, as
well as MacPascal and a few c compilers. You can download a bunch of them from System
6 heaven: http://www.euronet.nl/users/mvdk/development.html.

HyperCard is a versitle cardstack application that can function as anything from a
database to a role playing game. It certainly has development potential, but without
knowing what you are trying to write, it is tough to say whether hypercard would suit
your needs. Do a google search for "hypercard programming" and you will turn up plenty
of useful sites. As far as pre-System 6 machines and hypercard (you are talking about
the 128k I presume) you just need a version of hypercard that will run in the OS of
your choice. Hypercard was around long before system 6!

You can use Apple's own "Macintosh Programmer's Workshop' (in Classic). You'll find
info on writing for System 6 and a link to download the Software at:
http://www.euronet.nl/users/mvdk/developtoday.html. Good luck!

(And thanks to Martin for hosting all of that great stuff)
