I made a couple of changes afterwards: I turned around the logic so that we check whether something is a path, and assume everything else is a match, rather than check whether something is a match and assume everything else is a path. I also added canonicalize_path() to this to make this more reliable when people use symlinks. And I changed the manual malloc() to strappend().
