To be frank, this is the attitude of the 90's when you had to sit down
with a thick book and spend a week until your Linux system was up and
running

no - because you have to configure them anyways - multiple network interfaces don't know magically their roles

to be frank the attitude above of the 2000's on single NIC systems (like most virtual machines) leads in *everybody* has to configure something if it comes to virtual servers and iptables rules while having just "eth0" as all the years before on such setups would be safe and make it possible to just re-use your existing scripts
