Perhaps this is a simplistic solution to future 400R programs, but the way the
sport is constituted now, why not have the event run at the trials with the
various high-powred "clubs" racing for the honor of represnting the
country. It would be no different than the way the indidvidual events are
contested. (This would not apply to the 1600R since exchanges in that event are
nowhere near as important as they are in the shorter race).
I
could see one problem. While there are concentrations of sprint talent in this
way on the men's side, it is not the same with the women and, I suppose, if
you'll forgive the analogy, what's good for the gander here also has to be good
for the goose or all kind of legal complications could arise.
