RRW compiles male marathon performances to 2:18 and women to 2:50. In the
year 2000, through last weekend (missing a few results from Beijing,
M�nchen, Poznan and Odense which would increase the Kenyan and Chinese
shares) here is the distribution of 2:18-or-better marathon *performances*
by nation. Note that the top 5 nations (Kenya, Japan, Ethiopia, South
Africa and Russia) own 59% of the total performances, while the top-10
nations own 74%. African countries have 277 performances, or 48% of the
