Richard Tharp was an enthusiastic spectator at Saturday's Big 12 championships, and
the CU athletic director said his "vision" for CU's Buffalo Ranch cross country course
is to turn it into a "public access" facility for Boulder's runners while making it
one of the best courses in the nation.

"This is Boulder, Colorado," Tharp said, "and a lot of people know this course and
understand running. They are invested in it."

Tharp said he would be agreeable to the idea of letting open runners use the cross
country course. He said some people might be unaware that because of Bureau of Land
Management regulations, there are certain kinds of grass CU is not able to plant in
the South Campus area. The city and the university are negotiating over future use of
the area.
