Netters:

Here is a quick report on today's Northeast regional Footlocker races at Van Cortlandt Park. Weather was chilly and very dank, but there was no wind and performances were generally very good with no real hot-shots in the two fields. I mean, that is, nobody like Webb or Ritz.

Great day for the home state with five qualifiers in each race, Can't remember when anything like that has happened here before.

One of the more interesting results in the class races came in the soph girls' race. Amanda Trotter of Red Bank ran 2nd in 19:11, which would have olaced 22nd or 23rd in the championship race. The catch is that this was her first race of the season---she, like her two siblings and Katie Kingsbery, played soccer this fall. It recalls when Katie's older brother, Walton, won the junior boys' race two years ago off the soccer field, then switched sports the following year (1999) and wound up winning the state Gr. III title and placing 2nd in the AG race. Little chance, however, that this will happen with the three returning "booters" next fall.
