In case your wondering those are the sites and altitudes (in meters) of the
last 11 world championships/Olympics and this years edition of the world
championships. It would seem that if the weather holds up (read is warm
enough), that it might be an excellent place for a number of sprinters to get
a PR. Edmonton is higher that any site that regularly holds a major meet by a
couple hundred meters or so. This is not necessarily meant to start another
long discussion of the affects of altitude. I am however working on some
research I started about 15 years ago, and am just now getting going on
again, on the affects of altitude on sprinters. This is an invitation for
anyone who has seen or commented on the previous work and/or would be
interesting in seeing/commenting on or otherwise helping with the current
round of research to please contact me directly. Also if anyone knows for a
fact that any of the thirteen altitudes I have listed are off by more that 25
meters or so please let me know.
